Module 3: Search

Step 1
Download and Activate

Download the tutorial document, open it and activate TermLynx.

Search for Hypothec

  • Click on the search bar at the top of TermLynx and search for Hypothec.
  • Select the first result by clicking on it or pressing ENTER.

Look at Meaning(s)

  • After completing the search, TermLynx will select the first meaning in the Results.
  • The Explorer will display its content, which is the definition of Hypothec.

PRO TIPS
  • Some terms can have more than one definition.
  • If you search for Creditor or Grantor, you will see that they each have multiple definitions.

Select an instance

  • All instances of Indebtedness will be organized by location in Instances.
  • You can display an instance in TermLynx by selecting it.

  • Instances in the same location will be grouped together.
  • There are two instances of Indebtedness located in the section 2.4.2.
  • Using the left and right arrows on your keyboard will open and close groups.

Select Used by Defined Term(s)

  • All instances within a definition will be grouped together in Used by Defined Term(s).
  • In this case, only Charged Property and Indebtedness refers to Hypothec in their definitions.

Select Lowercase Instance(s)

  • Lowercase Instance(s) are non-capitalized occurrences of the defined term.

Search for Adverse Encumbrance

  • Search for Adverse Encumbrance in TermLynx.

Select the definition in Word

  • Press ENTER to select a result displayed in TermLynx in Microsoft Word.

PRO TIPS
  • You can turn the shortcuts reminder on and off in the TermLynx menu.

Search for option (text search)

  • Search for "option" in TermLynx.
  • You will notice that there is only a text search result as this agreement has no explicit definition for the term Option.

  • Surrounding your search query with double quotes will force a text search.

Explore the Results for option (text search)

  • Explore the text search results for option.
  • Because it is not a defined term, the results can include any word that contains share, just like CTRL + F in Word.
